Tips for people who want to create music

This is a topic where experienced folks should be sharing their tips and ideas about musicproduction to the rest of us. Is there any way to get our music out in the streets?

Basically, if you want to be able to get signed with a real record company, then you're going to have to have a fan base before that. Clubs will often hire local musicians (Don't expect much pay though) and if you get a street performance license, that's a great way to put your catchy songs into people's heads too.
My advice, based on knowing several people who do this to get their music out there.
